प्रशांत अपने परिवार के साथ लद्दाख घूमने गए।
उनके 28 वर्षीय लोकल ड्राइवर का नाम जिगमेत था।
प्रस्तुत है हिमालय की वादियों में घूमते हुए प्रशांत और जिगमेत की बातचीत के कुछ अंश।

प्रशांत---" तुम्हारे परिवार में कौन कौन हैं ? "

जिगमेत---" मेरे माता पिता, मेरी पत्नी और दो बेटियाँ हैं। "

प्रशांत---" इस क्षेत्र के टूरिस्ट सीजन अंतिम कुछ दिन शेष हैं, क्या सीजन के बाद तुम भी, गोवा चले जाओगे, जैसे यहाँ होटलों में काम करने वाले नेपाली वर्कर चले जाते हैं ? "

जिगमेत---" नहीं साहब, मैं यहाँ का लोकल लद्दाखी हूँ इसलिए मैं शीतकाल में कहीं नहीं जाता। "

प्रशांत---" तो फिर शीतकाल में तुम क्या काम करते हो ? "

जिगमेत---" कुछ नहीं। घर में रहता हूँ। "

प्रशांत---" 6 महीनों तक ? अगले अप्रैल महीने तक ? "

जिगमेत---" मेरे पास काम करने का और एक विकल्प है, वो है सियाचिन जाना। "

प्रशांत---" सियाचिन ! तुम वहाँ क्या करते हो ? "

जिगमेत---" वहाँ एक कुली ( Loader ) के रूप में इंडियन आर्मी में काम करता हूँ। "

प्रशांत---" तो क्या तुमने इंडियन आर्मी जॉइन की है ? "

जिगमेत---" नहीं साहब, आर्मी जॉइन करने की मेरी उम्र निकल चुकी है। वहाँ मैं इंडियन आर्मी के लिए ठेके पर काम ( Contract job ) करता हूँ। मेरे साथ मेरे दुसरे ड्राइवर साथी भी होते हैं जो ऑफ सीजन की बेरोजगारी झेल रहे होते हैं। हम 265 किलोमीटर की, 15 दिनों की दुर्गम पैदल यात्रा के बाद सियाचिन बेस कैम्प पहुँचते हैं क्योंकि वहाँ जाने के लिए कोई सड़क नहीं है जिसपर कोई वाहन चल सके। वहाँ हमारा स्वास्थ्य परिक्षण ( medical examination ) किया जाता है और फिट पाए जाने पर, हमें यूनिफॉर्म, जूते, गरम कपड़े, हेलमेट आदि दिए जाते हैं। इसके बाद अगले तीन महीने तक हम वहाँ काम करते हैं। "

प्रशांत---" वहाँ तुम क्या काम करते हो ? "

जिगमेत---" एक तरह से ये कुली का काम है। हम सियाचिन में सामानों को अपनी पीठ पर लादकर एक चौकी से दूसरी चौकी तक लाने, ले जाने का काम करते हैं। वहाँ हवाई साधन द्वारा सप्लाई गिराई जाती है, हम उस सप्लाई को जमा कर पीठ पर लादकर चौकी पहुँचाते हैं।

प्रशांत---" इंडियन आर्मी सामानों की सप्लाई को शिफ्ट करने के लिए खच्चरों या अन्य वाहनों का इस्तेमाल क्यों नहीं करती। "

जिगमेत---" सियाचिन एक ग्लेशियर है साहब, वहाँ ट्रक या अन्य वाहन काम नहीं कर सकते और बर्फ पर चलने वाले स्कूटर बहुत शोर करते हैं जो आस पास मौजूद शत्रुओं का ध्यान आकर्षित करेंगे। मतलब ये कि, किसी वाहन का उपयोग दूसरी तरफ से फायरिंग को निमंत्रण देता है।
हम लोग भी मध्यरात्रि के बाद बाहर निकलते हैं, रात को करीब 2 बजे निकालकर खामोशी से सामान जमाकर बैरकों तक लाते हैं।
यहाँ तक की हम टोर्च का उपयोग तक नहीं करते। खच्चरों और घोड़ों का उपयोग इसलिए भी नहीं किया जाता क्योंकि 18875 फिट की ऊँचाई और शीतकाल के माइनस 50 के तापमान में इन जानवरों का जीवित रहना असंभव है। "

प्रशांत---" इतने कम ऑक्सीजन लेवल वाले क्षेत्र में पीठ पर सामान लादकर तुम कैसे चल पाते हो ? "

जिगमेत---" हम अधिकतम 15 किलो सामान अपनी पीठ पर लादते हैं और अधिकतम 2 घंटे ही काम करते हैं। बाकी के समय हम आराम कर स्वास्थ्य लाभ प्राप्त करते हैं। "

प्रशांत---" तुम्हारा काम तो बहुत जोखिम भरा है। "

जिगमेत---" हाँ साहब, काम तो खतरनाक है। मेरे बहुत से दोस्त अपनी जान गवाँ चुके हैं, कुछ तो गहरी खाइयों में समा गए और कुछ दुश्मनों की गोलियों का शिकार होकर मारे गए। सबसे खतरनाक तो यहाँ की खून को जमा देने वाली ठंड ही है। "

प्रशांत---" ये बड़ी खतरनाक जिंदगी है। "

जिगमेत---" हाँ साहब, लेकिन बेरोजगार रहने से तो बहुत अच्छा है। यहाँ हमें 18000 रुपए प्रतिमाह मिलता है। अपने सारे खर्चे काटकर तीन महीनों में करीब 50000 रुपए बचाकर हम अपने घर लेकर जाते हैं।ये रकम मेरे परिवार और मेरी बेटियों की शिक्षा में बहुत काम आती है। इसके अलावा हमें बहुत गर्व होता है कि, हम इंडियन आर्मी के लिए काम करते हैं। मतलब अपने देश के लिए काम करते हैं। "

प्रशांत और जिगमेत का उपरोक्त वार्तालाप हमें एक अजीब अहसास से परिचित कराता है कि, कैसे कुछ पढ़े लिखे लोग हमारे भारत के टुकड़े कर देना चाहते हैं और कैसे जिगमेत जैसे अशिक्षित लोग देश के लिए अपनी जान लगा देते हैं।

Been to Laddakh for a week long family trip.
Local driver was 28 years old chap named Jigmet.

Jigmet's family consist of his parents, wife and two kid girls.

This was the conversation with Jigmet, during our drives in deep Himalayan Ranges.

Prashant :
At the end of this week tourist season in Laddakh will end.
Are you planning to go to Goa, the way Nepali Workers from Hotels do ?

Jigmet : No,
I am local Laddakhi,
so I won't go any where in winter.

Prashant :
What work will you do in winter ?

Jigmet : Nothing,
will sit up quietly at home ( chuckles and winks )

Prashant :
For six months,
up to next April ?

Jigmet :
I have one option for working.
It's to go to Siachen.

Prashant : Siachen !
What you will do there ?

Jigmet :
Work as Loader for Indian Army.

Prashant : You mean,
You will join Indian Army as Jawan ?

Jigmet : No,
I have crossed age limit to join Army.
This is a contract job for Indian Army.
With my few friend drivers, I will travel 265 kilometers to Siachen Base camp.
My medical examination will be done there to check, if I am fit enough for this job.
If I am declared fit, then Army will issue us uniforms, shoes, warm clothing, helmets, etc...
We will have to walk up mountains for 15 days to reach Siachen.
There is no motorable road to reach Siachen.
We will work there for 3 months.

Prashant :
What work will you do ?

Jigmet :
It is of loader.
To carry load on our back from one chowki to other in Siachen.
All supplies are airdropped there.
We do the job of picking it up and carrying it in Chowki.

Prashant :
Why Army does not use Mules or vehicles for shifting of loads ?

Jigmet :
Siachen is a Glacier.
Trucks or other vehicle will not work there.
Ice scooters make too much of sound, which will attract attention from enemy around there.
Use of vehicle will result in firing from other side.
We go out in the middle of night, generally around 2am and pick up load silently and bring back to barracks.
We can't even use a torch.
Mules or Horses cannot be used because at the altitude of 18875 feet, in winter temperature of minus 50, No animal will survive.

Prashant :
How can you lift load on your back where oxygen levels are low ?

Jigmet :
We carry maximum 15 kgs at a time and we work maximum for 2 hours in a day.
Rest of the time is for recuperating.

Prashant :
That is very risky.

Jigmet :
Many of my friend died there.
Some of them fell in bottomless crevasses.
Some got shot down by enemy bullets.
The biggest danger we have in Siachen is of frost bites.  

Prashant :
This is life threatening.

Jigmet : Yes,
but it's rewarding,
We are paid ₹18000/- per month.
Since all expenses are taken care of, we can save around ₹50,000/- in these three months.
This money is precious for my family, for my daughter's education and finally I have feeling that I am serving Army, which means my Nation.

Look at the contrasts.
The educated are wanting the country to be broken and the uneducated are willing to give their lives for our country.

एक व्यक्ति के पास उसका एक अंधा मित्र मिलने के लिए आया।
बातों बातों में कब रात हो गई पता ही नहीं चला।
अंधा मित्र जब जाने लगा तो उसने उसे एक जलती हुई लालटेन दी और बोला---" बाहर बहुत अन्धेरा है, ये लालटेन साथ ले जाओ। "

अंधा मित्र आश्चर्य से बोला---" अरे भाई, मैं तो अंधा हूँ और मेरे लिए अन्धेरा उजाला एक जैसा ही है तो इस लालटेन का मेरे लिए क्या उपयोग है ? "
मित्र ने कहा---" ये लालटेन तुम्हारे लिए नहीं, आँख वालों के लिए है, इस उजाले के कारण कोई तुमसे टकराएगा नहीं। "

ये बात अंधे मित्र को जमी और लालटेन लेकर वह निकल पड़ा।
थोड़ी दूर तक चलने के बाद एक आदमी उससे टकरा गया।
अंधा व्यक्ति गुस्से और आश्चर्य से बोला---" क्या बात है भाई, मेरे हाँथ में ये जलती हुई लालटेन तुम्हें दिखी नहीं क्या ? "

आदमी उससे ज्यादा आश्चर्य से बोला---" अरे भाई, तुम्हारी लालटेन कब से बुझी पड़ी है, क्या तुम ये नहीं जानते ? "

ये सुनकर अंधा व्यक्ति हँस पड़ा और बोला---" नहीं भाई मुझे नहीं मालूम कि, लालटेन बुझ गई है। लेकिन एक बात आज मैं अच्छी तरह समझ गया हूँ कि, उधार में ली हुई रौशनी बहुत लंबे समय तक हमारे लिए उपयोगी नहीं हो सकती। "

मेरा एक मित्र बाइक पर जा रहा था।
उसके आगे एक महिला अपनी स्कूटी पर जा रही थी।

अचानक बिना इंडिकेटर, बिना हाँथ दिए,
वो राइट साइड मुड़ गई।
मित्र ने उसे आवाज दी और बोला,
" अरे, टर्न लेते समय कम से कम हाँथ तो दिखाना था। "
तो वो बोली---" अब उसके लिए क्या हाँथ दिखाना, मैं तो रोज ही इधर मुड़ती हूँ। "

Initially Women's Day was planned on 6th March...

Women took 2 days to get ready. That's how it got postponed to 8th March!!! 😜

Men's Day was also planned...
But as usual, they forgot the date!!!

helpfull sardaar of india

Dear all family n friends

I was at karnal Haryana n got Fixed into there for around 4 days on road high way due to Jaat andolan.
Approx 5000 people were there helpless with family kids and elderly people. No where to go in cold.
Than here came on highways many Many Sardars with their families.  served milk, water food and they took us to their Gurudwaras at Panipat
Gave shelter to everybody more than 5000 people. From small kids, young girls, boys elders prepared n served food n arrange for good hospitality. Asked for any sort of help even medicines. Shops were got opened for blankets.
Warm bkankets food tea milk was  served continuesly without asking anybody their cast n creed.

I regret to say that we talk a lot about 'karuna' n charity, n moral values.
Do we do charity without discriminating between cast n creed.
Let's learn a few things from the great community of Sardars.
I salute there sprit.
I m greatly humbled n feel cherished  to have been there with these great people.
This is my life time eye opening experience.
Don't have words to express the gratitude.
